    Beach Roses

A recent trip to the beach found these Rosa Rugusa Red Roses growing in sand in full beautiful bloom. They are very tough rose bushes, a strong wind and hot sun did not seem to phase these plants. Ruguso Roses are commonly known as shrub roses. The Rugusa Roses are vigorous growers especially when compared to the wild pink rose bush shown below.

Pink Rose Bush
This wild rose flower is sweetly fragrant. It's different from the rosa Rugusa roses in that it has very few flowers. Even when grown in reasonably good soil it just doesn't get many flowers.

Back at home in the garden a Magnifica Rose plant blooms. The Magnifica Rose is a member of the Rosa Rugusa family same as the beach roses. It is ideally suited for a rose garden. This one is considered a double flower. It is very fragrant and produces large rose hips in the fall. The rose hips are used to make jelly and tea.
The Magnifica Rose bush is a hardy shrub rose.
